Lazy J Bar O Outfitters offers Alaska hunts for Dall Sheep, Grizzly Bear, Moose and Caribou. Currently we are in our 9th year of business in Alaska, and have been registered to guide in Alaska since 1999. Mike Colpo, owner of Lazy J Bar O Outfitters, grew up in Montana and has been around the outfitting business his entire life. Mike has a lot of experience in hunting and guiding. We strive to have top quality horses, camp, and guides in order to make your experience a successful and enjoyable one.


Dall Sheep - 10 Day Alaska Range Hunt:
Aug.10 - Sep.10. These hunts are conducted with horses, so this makes for an enjoyable hunt for the hunter, taking out the majority of the hiking and some of the physical stress off of the hunter. Some hiking is definitely required, so being in good physical shape is still a bonus. Most hunts are out of the main base camp, and moving spike camps are used on these hunts. We have taken a few 40"rams; the average ram is 35" to 38" with a good population of sheep in the area. We also offer a couple of backpacking options.

Moose Hunts - 10 Day Alaska Range Hunt:
Sep. 1 - 25. These hunts are mountain and big river valley terrain hunted from horseback with a lot of glassing and riding involved. These hunts are conducted from our main camp with occasional spike camp use depending on where the big bulls are. We have taken bulls in the 70" range and more are seen each year, most bulls average 55" to 65". GMU 20A has a high population of moose 9,500-10,000 counted in 2004 and 2005 winter by Fish and Game.


Bear Hunts - 12 Day Spring Brown Bear Kodiak Island / 5 Day Spring Black Bear / 10 Day Grizzly: Our Grizzly hunts are Sept. 5 - 25. We hunt the bears from the main camp, horseback spot and stalk method. We offer Spring Grizzly and Coastal Brown Bear which are hunted in other areas. These hunts consist of fly-in foot and snow shoe hunts and snow machines when warranted. We also offer spring Black Bear which is a fly-in hunt.



Caribou Hunts: 5 Day Alaska Range Hunts: We do have some outstanding caribou in our area in GMU 20A. They are on a draw and the application time is May 31st with notification about mid-July. Horseback Hunting Caribou in Alaska is rare, but if you can draw one of these great permits your chances of taking an outstanding animal are excellent.




Spike Camp: We offer first-class accommodations in camp. We use wall tent camps with cots and wood stoves with 2-3 hunters per tent. We have a full time cook that puts out a pretty good spread - fresh bread, baked goods, and just good food to make your hunt enjoyable. You won't go away hungry. Spike camps are a little rougher living, but we try to make it as comfortable as possible. Our guides are experienced hunters and horsemen, and understand what it takes to make a hunt work.
