Hunting in Montana for Deer, Antelope, Turkey, Geese, Pheasant and Grouse

The Nansel Ranch Guest House is located on the J.M. Nansel Ranch, a working cattle ranch in Southeastern Montana offering Western Cattle Drives and Trophy Hunts. It was built in 1941 of pine logs obtained from a lumber mill in Ashland, Mt., 70 miles south of the ranch. Accommodations include: Furnished two-bedroom house (sleeps 8). Cozy log cabin atmosphere. Outdoor hot tub. Full bath with tub and shower. Fully equipped kitchen with wood stove and electric heat.

Lodging Rates: Up to four guests: First night $200. Second through seventh $150. Add'l guests $35 (Maximum of eight) 50 percent down with reservation.

The Nansel Ranch hunting program was designed with the hunter in mind. You will have the entire property, over 25,000 acres, at your disposal. We do not guide, but you will get a tour of the ranch the day before the hunt begins. We can advise you as to what has worked best in the past, and have several means available to help retrieve your downed game. This means that you are able to use your hunting skills without interference.

Our game management practices, along with excellent natural genetics, have provided hunters with some of the best Mule Deer opportunities in the region. Many have scored in the 170 to 180 range. Pronghorn Antelope are becoming more abundant all the time, with a 16.5" buck bagged by Rob Knuth of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin currently holding the record. We also provide a unique opportunity for the bow enthusiast to get that Trophy Whitetail.

Upland Game Birds? Check us out! See the Grouse strutting grounds. Our birds are all natural, we do not stock commercial birds. Pheasants are more plentiful than ever, right now. And let's not forget about the thrill of calling a Trophy Tom in during our Spring Turkey season, or seeing thousands of Canada Geese flying in to rest on the Yellowstone River!

Montana licenses are required. For our out-of-state friends, we provide Landowner Sponsor certificates, free of charge, which will enroll you in a much higher (80%) Mule Deer drawing with FW&P. This program cuts the cost of your tag by two thirds. Contact us or Montana FW&P for information on obtaining other licenses.
