Hunting, Fishing and Wildlife Photography in Kodiak, Alaska

Hunting: The terrain in our area of Afognak is composed of lowlands and areas of up to 1,000 feet elevation, forested and non-forested and many beaches. This setting has approximate success rates of the following: about 60% for unguided and guided elk, respectively; 95% overall for Brown Bear and 100% for deer and duck. Hunters did their part in establishing these success rates by being in good physical condition.

Deposit 50% of Lodge fees plus 100% of the additional costs is due 10 days following the booking of your trip.

Cancellation Policy Full refund is given if cancellation is made 90 days prior to Deer, Elk and Duck hunts and 6 months prior to Bear Hunts. Otherwise, credit is issued for a future visit for yourself or another hunter of your choice.

Enjoy the forest and fjord adventures of Alaska's Afognak Wilderness Lodge: Spacious log guest cabins are elegantly rustic and cozy, nestled where the edge of the virgin forest meets with tranquil waters of a protected cove. Each cabin has two bedrooms, an ample living room and a modern bathroom with hot, running water--plenty of creature comforts. Hearty local cuisine is served family style in the main lodge, plus a dandy packed lunch is prepared for an uninterrupted day with Mother Nature. Boats include fast, comfortable cabin cruisers that are ideal for those who want a casual yet active and adventurous day in the freedom of wilderness and sea.

Fishing: Sockeye, Pink and Silver Salmon and also Rainbow, Dolly Varden and Steelhead Trout call these streams off the Gulf of Alaska home. Offshore, there's a myriad of saltwater species from the giant Halibut right down to the delicate Flounder. At low tide, you can dig clams, harvest mussels, pursue an octopus or just investigate the interesting intertidal zone. (A guest freezer and waxed airline boxes are available for those who want to take all or part of their catch home) . We furnish all fishing gear for both fresh and saltwater fishing, but if you have your own favorite salmon/trout gear, feel free to bring it.

Alaskan Wildlife Viewing and Photography: Multiple boats and guides provide yet another choice... outstanding almost mosquitoless wildlife viewing. * Kodiak Brown Bear *Sea Mammals *Soaring Bald Eagles *Comical Puffins. Guests have often included international filming crews who capture the unique combination of wildlife this area offers.
The new Afognak Island State Park has been established to preserve this delightful combination in its stunningly beautiful "enchanted" forest and fjord setting.
