We have been providing outfitting services in the Central Barrenlands north of Yellowknife since 1983. We offer hunting safaris for Caribou, Black Bear and Arctic Wolf guided by experienced professionals. We also offer fishing expeditions by the hour, day or week for Pike, Lake Trout and Grayling..

Bear Hunting: Six days. The South shore of the North Arm became available for with a change in the hunting regulations this summer. May to June.

Caribou Hunting: Seven days. Includes fishing and small game hunting, wolf, and wolverine.
Wolf Hunting: Six days. Travel the winter road from Yellowknife to Mackay Lake Lodge or hunt the north arm of Great Slave Lake.
Trout, Grayling & Pike Fishing: Three, four and seven day packages. July to August at Mackay Lake Lodge.


Fishing Expeditions: True North Safaris offers great fishing in the Northwest Territory of Canada. The Best Fishing Anywhere! We offer the world's finest lake trout and grayling fishing in the Barrenland. MacKay Lake is over 100 miles long and is accessible only by air charter. Trout range in size to over 50 pounds!. Grayling in the 2 -3 pound class can be caught on fly rods or spin casting equipment. The "Barrenlands" is another world with the wildlife, tundra, and the midnight sun, making this the trip of a lifetime.

Lodges: MacKay Lake Lodge Offers real comfort in this remote wilderness setting with private cabin accommodation, electricity and indoor plumbing, a licensed lounge, and a restaurant style kitchen. Freezers, laundry service, modern boats & motors, and an airstrip all combine to make MacKay Lake Lodge the premier hunting and fishing location in the Northwest Territories. Our facilities are by far the best in the Northwest Territories and in addition to MacKay Lake Lodge, we have several tent camps which can be used for overnight camping out, depending on the location of the game.

Warburton Bay Lodge is located about 45 miles southwest of the main lodge, and is closer to the treeline. Bow hunters often prefer the extra cover afforded by this terrain. This camp has electricity and permanent, insulated cabins with running water. It can be accessed only by boat and floatplanes. While we only offer full-service, fully guided hunts, guests are expected to help out more at the outposts.

How long do you want to stay? We offer fishing trips by the hour, day or week to suit your schedule and budget. From one day trips, to several-day camping trips in the arctic or week-long expeditions at one of our wilderness lodges on Mackay Lake or Warburton Bay. All of our fishing expedition are conducted by professional licenses guides; all travel from Yellowknife, accommodation and food is included in the packages.
